In the most serious cases,\u00a0<strong>the general condition of your animal is altered, with fever, weakness and loss of appetite<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"single-advice-inside-content\">\n<h2>What is the strategy for combating and preventing skin infections?<\/h2>\n<p>It involves\u00a0<strong>several components<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Initially, your veterinarian may prescribe a\u00a0<strong>local treatment<\/strong>\u00a0(shampoo, wipes, lotion, spray, skin cleanser, ointment, etc.), in order to reduce the quantity of bacteria or microscopic fungi, and soothe itching. This treatment may be applied frequently at the outset and then at longer intervals, preferably to shaved skin.<\/li>\n<li>In the event of a deep skin infection (and sometimes superficial infection),\u00a0<strong>oral\/injectable antibiotics and\/or specific treatment for yeast\/fungal infections<\/strong>. The recommended dosage regimen should be followed fully over a long period. Perseverance is the key to success!<\/li>\n<li>Initiation of an\u00a0<strong>appropriate long-term treatment<\/strong>\u00a0if the predisposing cause of the infection (allergy, parasites, etc.) has been identified, to reduce the risk of recurrence.<\/li>\n<li>Finally, regular long-term use of\u00a0<strong>cleansing, moisturizing and emollient products<\/strong>\u00a0&gt;
